According to a new study published in the journal JAMA Internal medicine, people drinking more than two glasses of soda or any soft drink in a day have a high risk of dying. The study was conducted on more than 450,000 people aged up to 19 years from 10 European countries. None of the subjects had cancer, diabetes, and heart disease prior to the study.
Sugar-sweetened softened drinks has a higher risk of inducing digestive disorder in men and women who consumed more than 2 glasses a day. Also consuming more than 2 glasses of diet drinks increased the chances of death due to cardiovascular diseases as per a CNN report.
According to Dr. Sharon Horesh Bergquist, an assistant professor of medicine at Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta, consuming high sugar can impair the stomach barrier leading to a leaky gut leaving the immune system open to attacks and susceptible to infections.
Findings also suggested that totally relying on soft drink also lead to an increased risk for Parkinson’s disease.
