The well-known rapper and 22-time Grammy winner opened up about his mental illness in a 2019 interview with David Letterman. In an interview, he compared his mental condition to a “brain sprain” and said that even when others are aware of how much suffering a person with a mental illness is experiencing, they nevertheless make it worse.

“If someone has a sprained ankle, you’re not going to push on him more. With us, once our brain gets to a point of spraining, people do everything to make it worse,” said West in an interview with Letterman.

Although Iron Man has never publicly discussed his mental illness, his stepmother revealed to the world in an interview that Robert has bipolar disorder and that is why he was unable to abstain from alcohol and drugs.

The multi-talented artist said in an interview from 2018 that she had been dealing with bipolar disorder for about 20 years. She claimed that by surrounding herself with positive individuals and taking medication, she was able to get back to doing the things she enjoyed.
