The reason why Apple’s Ear pods are so expensive

“$249 for few grams of plastic and tech? Are you kidding me?”

If you think that the price of AirPods are ridiculously high, well, you’re not alone.

We’ve done a lot of segments in past mocking Apple’s epic fails. Hell, we even made a second part mocking more fails.

But we felt that Apple is after all, one of the most innovative companies in the world and deserves its due respect in its tech products. Their not-so-recent launch of Apple Airpods were met with a mixed response, including a cold, jeering reception from those who couldn’t afford them.

No matter what they say, we’d like to take a moment to admire the brilliance of the Apple Earpods and justify its seemingly unjust costs.

You first need to understand that a lot of tech has been crammed into a small space. The technology inside is exponentially more advanced than the computers that sent the first man to the moon.

Here’s the list of tech that you’re paying for–

  1. Active Noise cancellation feature
  2. Ear tip fitting test that ensures that the pods are nestled perfectly on your ears and provide you with the best acoustic experience
  3. Super high discharge to charge ratio. Charge for 5 minutes to use it for an hour
  4. It has 10 audio cores with its cutting edge H1 chip
  5. Water resistant and sweat proof build
  6. Switching to Transparency mode lets outside sound in, so you can hear what’s going on around you. You can switch between ANC and transparency mode by the Force sensor on the stem.
  7. The Force sensor apart form helping you enable or disable the ANC, also helps you skip tracks while listening to music.
  8. Qi compatible wireless charging case that works as a portable powerbank offering upto 24 hours of battery juice.

Speaking of the cost, if you look carefully, they’re actually pretty decent. Take any decent active noise cancelling headphones, and you’ll find them in the range of $350 to $450. So the price of $249 is actually sensible.

Here are other popular alternatives along with their price tag–

  1. Bose soundsport wireless earbud (no ANC): $200
  2. Powerbeats Pro by Dr. Dre (no ANC): $200
  3. Sony WF-1000XM3: $230
  4. Airpods pro: $249

One major downfall would be the fact that it works only with a Apple device (that’s okay since they’ve been trying to promote the Apple ecosystem right from the start). But apart from that, they are one marvelous pair of wearable with cutting edge tech baked into them.
