The Cold War between Charlie Chaplin and Pablo Picasso

Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin fondly called Charlie Chaplin was born on April 16^th, 1889 in London, England. He was a jack of all trades in direction, music composing, and acting and was regarded as the best till today.

While he was considered as the legend of comedy, it was Pablo Picasso who was another legend on his own. Recently when there was an auction in Paris at the Picasso Museum both the legend’s used properties were kept and Pablo’s was sold at a good price. In the case of Charlie, it was not any less as previously his hat and cane were given at a sum of $40,000.

If the same was in 1952 the world-renowned artists would have filled the shoes of entertaining fans across the globe but Charlie was more successful from the time he did motion pictures whereas Pablo had his own struggles. Though Pablo was popular amidst the collectors and museums he was not accepted by the fans as he was considered too contemporary, very ugly and implementing Cubism in each of his styles.

When Chaplin and Pablo appreciated Stalin for his ruling in Russia, Picasso slammed him stating: “formalistic”, “decadent”, “bourgeois” and “anti-human”. He was furious as there were celebrations of peace from Moscow to Peking.

Despite Chaplin and Pablo born in the same era, they were not able to take insults with each other. There was always a gap between both of them.
