Do you like to watch crime thrillers that cause a tingling sensation on your spine? Are you one of those movie viewers who love to see suspense unfold when you are on the edge of your seat? If yes, we are sure you will have an interesting read here because we have compiled a list of some of those blood-curdling serial killing movies that were actually based on true incidents. Here we go!

  1. The Silence of the Lambs

The film’s lead characters are played by Jodie Foster (as Clarice Starling) and Anthony Hopkins (as Dr. Hannibal Lecter). The killer in this movie is known as “Buffalo Bill,” who has a sick mind and kidnaps plus-sized women. Eventually, he kills them and then wears their skin as an outfit. The movie laid the foundation for the production of more films in the same genre. It is to be noted that Buffalo Bill is actually an “amalgamation” of many serial killers.

  1. Scream

The killings in the movie take place in one of California’s towns. There is a masked killer who terrorizes and brutally murders some high school students in the town. The director of the film was inspired by the Florida serial killer, the “Gainsville Ripper,” whose actual name is Danny Rolling.

  1. From Hell

Johnny Depp plays the lead role in this psychological thriller film that was directed by Albert and Allen Hughes. The movie revolves around “Jack the Ripper,” who is a mysterious murderer who kills women whose bodies are later found within a mile’s radius of each other.

  1. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile

There’s a single mom who mistakenly believes she has found the man of her dreams. That man is accused of a chain of grisly murders. The movie is all about Ted Bundy (played by Zac Efron) who is the actual serial killer. The story is based on true murders committed by Ted Bundy, who defends himself in a trial (it was the first of the United States’ nationally televised ones).

  1. The Frozen Ground

The killer (played by John Cusack) is Robert Hansen, also known as “The Butcher Baker.” He primarily targets sex workers and turns them loose in the wilderness. He then uses a rifle and a knife and hunts them down.
