For the third consecutive weekend, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King and Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 riveled for the top spot at the domestic box office.

After a close battleMufasa emerged victorious, claiming the top position with $23.8 million, bringing its domestic total to $168.6 million.

Overseas, the film soared past the $300 million mark, adding $53.3 million to its total. Its global earnings now stand at an impressive $476.4 million, making it the 10th highest-grossing title of 2024.

Meanwhile, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 faced equally fierce competition. It secured second place with $21.2 million domestically, pushing its total to $187.5 million. On the international front, Sonic 3 brought in $51.2 million, bringing its foreign total to $148.8 million and its worldwide gross to $336.3 million.

Mufasa has also helped propel the box office achievements of its stars into new territory. Seth Rogen, who voices Pumbaa in the film, has seen his career domestic box office total reach a staggering $4 billion. With an international total of $5.2 billion, his worldwide haul now stands at an incredible $9.3 billion.

Mufasa: The Lion King surpassed Venom: The Last Dance this weekend, solidifying its position among the top 10 highest-grossing films of the year at the global box office.

With a $200 million production budget, Mufasa faced a challenging path to profitability. However, the film is now on the brink of turning a profit as it approaches the $500 million mark.
