Not so long ago, Walt Disney released the extended trailer for ALADDIN. Its prime cast includes Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Will Smith as the Genie. Though the first look does justice to what we saw growing up, at times you’d feel it like a Cosplay, gone terribly wrong.
And the one thing they can’t talk about is Will Smith starring as the wish-granting, majestic Genie.
Call it a PR stunt or a casting error of sorts, the internet obviously has its views, and apparently, everybody can’t stop talking about it, conveying their angst or humor through goofy memes and quirky remarks.
Meme lovers and the Twitterati seized this opportunity gifted on their laps and went gung-ho, trolling the gobshite out of it. Some of the memorable ones are–
We know for a fact that we all love Will Smith, from his eccentric antics in The Fresh prince OF Bel-Air, to the goofy agent in MiB. From the caring father in pursuit of happiness to the patriotic fighter pilot in The Independence Day. Will has always had a reputation to slam his critics with his stellar performances and woo fans with his ability to get better day after day.
Can Will turn the tide around this time too? We’d have to wait till the movie’s release. Another feather to his cap or a terrible movie selection? Will shall let us know in time.
Aladdin movie released in 3D, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on May 24, 2019.
