Jay Leno recalls his terrible accident

Cause of Jay Leno's Serious Burns

The comedian Jay Leno is all back in form. He explained how his vintage cars caused him to suffer severe burns in a matter of seconds during his first interview after the burns with NBC News.

He revealed that he was attempting to regulate the fuel line of a 1907 White Steam Car in his Burbank garage. He was doing work alongside Dave Killackey, his friend. When Jay requested his friend Dave to blow through the fuel line, Jay’s face became completely covered in gasoline. This caused his face to catch fire when the car’s pilot light ignited the fuel. Thankfully, Dave, his friend, dragged him out and saved him.

Jay suffered significant second and third-degree burns on his face, chest, and hands. Leno was working underneath his garage when his car caught fire in a blink of an eye.

“He’s been a remarkably kind and engaging patient. He passed out cookies to children in the burn unit,” said the hospital management which treated Jay’s burns.

The multi-talented artist Jay Leno suffers severe burns after a gasoline fire leaves him with “significant” burns on his face, chest, and hand. The comedian is being treated at Grossman Burn Center and went through surgery for second and third-degree burns.

The medical director at the Grossman Burn Center addressed the press and said although Jay Leno has severe burns, his life is not in danger.

“Some of the burns to the face are a little deeper and a little more concerning. Currently, there’s no evidence of nerve damage. I do anticipate him making a full recovery. Whether they’ll be remnants of this injury, it’s still too early to tell. I’d say that his injuries are serious, his condition is good,” said the medical director, Dr. Peter Grossman.

When his car caught fire unexpectedly, Jay Leno was working in his garage underneath it. Even though he was rescued from the car’s undercarriage, the fire caused severe burns to his face, chest, and hands.

“He’s been a remarkable kind and engaging patient. He passed out cookies to children in the burn unit,” said Dr. Grossman.

Jay underwent a surgical excision at the burned areas and he is recovering from his wounds.
