Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo to Star in New ‘Wicked’ Movie

The Wicked movie got its lead actors! The English actress Cynthia Erivo and the Grammy-winning pop star Ariana Grande are ready to portray Elphaba and Glinda, respectively. Wicked is an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical. It is to be directed by Crazy Rich Asians producer Jon M. Chu. He revealed the news on Instagram on Thursday.

Chu wrote, “These two witches!!” “The emotional moment I got to tell @cynthiaerivo and @arianagrande that they were our Elphaba and Galinda in the @WickedMovie for @unistudios 😭😭😭wait until you see what they bring!! It is otherworldly. Ahhhhh!!!”
The stars also posted on their respective Instagram accounts.

Grande wrote in a message to Erivo, sent with a pink and green floral design (the signature hues of Glinda and Elphaba), “Dear Cynthia, honored doesn’t even begin to cover it. I cannot wait to hug you. See you in Oz,”

The American actress also received flowers from her co-actor in Glinda and Elphaba signature colors with a note that reads “pink goes good with green.”
Erivo wrote, “Congratulations Miss A, the part was made for you.” “I look forward to sharing this musical journey with you.”

This musical is an adaptation of the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West published in 1995, written by Gregory Maguire. The story focuses on Elphaba’s life before she became the Wicked Witch of the West from L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The audience can also see the bond between the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch.
