AOC returns to bartending to promote fair wages

Democrat and media sensation Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez raised awareness on minimum wages by taking lunch orders and making cocktails on Friday. She did this in an effort to increase wages for bartenders and servers.

She was spotted rocking the cocktail shaker like a pro behind a counter in Queensboro Restaurant, New York.

Before becoming a modern face of US Politics, AOC used to work as a bartender as young as 16 years old where she was a victim of various inappropriate behavior and sexual abuse by customers. Ever since she has been advocating better working conditions and pay for people like her.

She went from a bartender to being elected to Congress in a span of two years and reignited the debate, proposing the “Raise the Wage Act,” which demanded the minimum wage to be raised to $15 an hour.

As per the U.S law, employers of restaurants don’t have to pay any sort of minimum wage to their workers but instead are allowed to pay a “tip-credit“ up to $5.12 per hour. That leaves workers making as little as $2.13 per hour, which is deemed okay by the law. So no worries.

Ocasio-Cortez, 29, stunned New York Democrats a year ago by defeating incumbent Joe Crowley in the primary election. After that, she claimed victory in November and soared to national prominence as a leading voice of the left wing of the party.
