The Rock is getting a major WWE anniversary celebration, and the company reportedly has something special planned for one of its biggest legends. Dwayne Johnson’s 30th anniversary in WWE arrives this November, marking three decades since he made his debut as Rocky Maivia at Survivor Series 1996. According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE is preparing a series of tributes to celebrate the milestone.
The plans reportedly include a commemorative championship belt, special merchandise releases and social media campaigns looking back at The Rock’s legendary career.
The Rock Could Get His Own Anniversary Championship
The most interesting part of the reported plans is the special championship belt. WWE has regularly released commemorative titles for major milestones, but a belt celebrating The Rock’s three decades in wrestling could become a particularly attractive collectible for fans.
The company is also expected to roll out anniversary merchandise, giving fans another opportunity to celebrate the superstar who helped define WWE’s Attitude Era.
From Rocky Maivia to The People’s Champion
The Rock made his WWE in-ring debut on November 17, 1996, at Madison Square Garden. Back then, he was introduced as Rocky Maivia, a third-generation wrestler following in the footsteps of his father Rocky Johnson and grandfather Peter Maivia.
His initial character didn’t last long. After joining the Nation of Domination, he reinvented himself as The Rock and eventually became one of professional wrestling’s biggest names. His charisma, unforgettable catchphrases and rivalries with Stone Cold Steve Austin and other WWE legends helped turn him into a global superstar before Hollywood came calling.
