The cape is back, the S is shining, and the fans are flying high—because Superman first reactions have officially landed, and they’re soaring!
Following the glitzy Los Angeles premiere of James Gunn’s Superman, early viewers are calling it a knockout reboot and exactly the kind of fresh start the DC Universe desperately needed. Critics and influencers hit social media with praise faster than a speeding bullet, calling the film “a terrific start for the new DC Studios.”

I SAW #SUPERMAN!
It’s ripped straight from the pages of a comic book. This is a Superman I can’t wait to introduce to my son. It’s fun, hopeful and everything a Superman movie should be. I loved it.
If this is what @JamesGunn’s DCU looks like, you can count me all the way in! pic.twitter.com/OJQKXkP9XV

David Correnswet steps into the red boots as the Man of Steel, joined by the sharp and fearless Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and a deliciously villainous Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Throw in Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, and even Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern, and this cast is stacked with talent.
Collider’s Perri Nemiroff hyped up the “exhilarating action set pieces,” while Fandango’s Erik Davis called it “a solid mix of heart, humor, and heroism.” And let’s be real—if Collider and Fandango are cheering, we’re paying attention.
This reboot marks James Gunn’s first DC film under his co-leadership of DC Studios with producer Peter Safran. And if early reactions are anything to go by, fans can breathe easy—this isn’t another superhero fumble.
“People are looking for heroes right now,” Gunn said earlier this year. “They are looking for values of goodness… and Superman is that.” Preach, James. Preach.
The film flies into theaters July 11, and the buzz is already electric. As DC cleans house and kicks off a brand-new cinematic universe, this Superman might just save the day—on and off screen.
