Gene Kelly one of the ace actors of the ’50s and he was a well-known movie “Singin In the Rain.” Today his wife Patricia Ward remembers that this was the movie where she met him.
She said: “I had no idea who he was.” “She was working on a documentary about the American Smithsonian museum when Kelly was drafted in as narrator. ‘I didn’t go to the movies and I was in the library all the time, so I was as nerdy as you can get,” she says. “So when this person named Gene Kelly came in, I was like, “Whatever. I just need to pay my rent!”
Of course, Gene went on to be “the one” to spend the rest of her life. The pair tied the knot in 1990 when it was 77 and she was just 31 and they remained together until his last breath in 1996. “I know it sounds like I’m manufacturing this, but I honestly never thought about it,’ she says of their age difference. ‘There was just nothing old about him.”
Kelly’s never-fading handsomeness will be exhibited from October in the British Film Institute which will release the musical films like “American In Paris and Singin’ In The Rain,” amidst others across the world. Besides, Patricia will be introducing her “one-woman show called Gene Kelly: The Legacy.”
And that’s history as we could get a glimpse of Patricia’s LA home where it had some great pictures and letters from the favorites of Laurence Oliver and Paul Newman and lots of memories to cherish. “He originally hired me to write his book in 1986, stating it with all smiles,” and told she is “still working on it.”
