Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp down Mark, Zuckerberg Loses $7 Billion Net Worth in Hours

Facebook-owned platforms WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger faced global outrage for 6 hours. The Social media platforms owned by Facebook, Inc went dark around 9 pm on Monday that prevented the company’s 3.5 million users from accessing social media.

The social media giant did not specify the outrage, but it was said to be an internal mistake. Facebook tweeted “To the huge community of people and businesses around the world who depend on us: we’re sorry. We’ve been working hard to restore access to our apps and services and are happy to report they are coming back online now. Thank you for bearing with us.” Facebook wrote just a few minutes before the services were up online.

Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive officer of Facebook, personally apologized for the disruption. In a Facebook post, he wrote “Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger are coming back online now. Sorry for the disruption today — I know how much you rely on our services to stay connected with the people you care about.” Due to the outrage, Zukerberg loses $7 million and drops to No.5 on the world’s richest people list. Facebook share also dropped by nearly 5%.

Workspace, Facebook’s internal communications platform, and Oculus, Facebook’s virtual reality platform also stopped working. Downdector, a website monitoring group, said that Facebook outrage was the largest they have ever seen “The Facebook outage continues and has become the largest outage we’ve ever seen on Downdetector with over 10.6 million problem reports from all over the globe,” Downdector said in a post.
