Controversial French Star Gerard Depardieu

A versatile actor with a contrast appearance and gentle voice is Gerard Depardieu. Born on December 27^th, 1948, he had a small education at his teenage in Paris where he did acting class. He made his first appearance in a short movie Le Beatnik et le minet in 1965 and from there on he got opportunities in movies in 1970.

Depardieu’s character as a young gangster in Les Valseuses made him prominent and noted. This enabled him to do several notable films like “Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1900 (1976), François Truffaut’s Le Dernier Métro (1980; The Last Metro), Loulou (1980), Le Retour de Martin Guerre (1981; The Return of Martin Guerre), Andrzej Wajda’s Danton (1983), Jean de Florette (1986), and its sequel, Manon des Sources (1986; Manon of the Spring). He starred in Camille Claudel (1989), and in 1990 he won the best actor award at the Cannes film festival for his role in Cyrano de Bergerac (1990).”

He also did any historical characters from being a “peasant to profound leaders George Danton, and artist Auguste Rodin.” He was an all-rounder in playing different roles. Further, he was mainly known for his strong figure rather than his subtle voice. Gerard did almost 6 movies each year and by the end of 1980, he became a renowned star in France and across the world.

Though he was a French citizen he went on to get Russian citizenship in 2013 to avoid high taxes.
