Khan is one of India's biggest movie stars, and has been called the biggest movie star in the world by some news outlets. As an actor, his biggest hits include 3 Idiots (2009), Dhoom 3 (2013), PK (2014) and Dangal (2016). In addition to acting he has ventured into producing and directing. His 2001 film Lagaan, which he produced, was one of the most successful Indian films of its era and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2002 Oscars. His directorial debut came in 2007 with the successful film Taare Zameen Par. Since 2012 he has hosted the television talk show Satyamev Jayate, which has seen him highlight social issues in the country.
