Zendaya has landed another major film project. The actress is set to star in an untitled science-fiction movie written and directed by Alex Garland for A24, with production expected to begin in 2027. This movie has already attracted attention because it brings together one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and the filmmaker behind Ex Machina and Civil War. However, the film’s official title, storyline, additional cast members, and release date have not yet been announced.
What Do We Know About Zendaya’s New Sci-Fi Movie?
The upcoming film will see Zendaya collaborate with A24 on another project, while Garland will take charge of both the screenplay and direction. For now, the production is keeping its story details secret. It is not yet known whether Zendaya will play a scientist, an astronaut, or a character in a futuristic world. Any claims about her character or the film’s plot would be speculation at this stage.
The expected 2027 filming schedule also does not mean the movie will be released that year. A release date has not been confirmed.
Why Alex Garland Is an Interesting Choice
Garland has built a reputation for science-fiction stories that explore technology, artificial intelligence, human behavior, and unsettling possibilities about the future. His directorial credits include Ex Machina, a film about artificial intelligence and the boundaries between humans and machines, and Annihilation, a science-fiction thriller involving a mysterious, changing environment.
He also directed Men and Civil War, the latter examining a fictional modern American conflict through the perspective of journalists. His films often combine striking visuals with questions that remain with viewers after the credits roll.
That background makes his reunion with A24 particularly interesting. Although the new film’s subject is unknown, Garland’s previous work gives science-fiction fans a reason to watch for further announcements.
Zendaya and A24 Are Teaming Up Again
This is another collaboration between Zendaya and A24, the independent entertainment studio behind projects including Euphoria and The Drama. Zendaya starred as Rue Bennett in Euphoria, the drama series that explored addiction, relationships, and the pressures facing teenagers. She also appeared opposite Robert Pattinson in The Drama, a film that added another different kind of role to her career.
She has also continued to balance major studio productions with other projects. She is set to return as Chani in Dune: Part Three, while Garland is working on A24’s adaptation of the video game Elden Ring.
