There’s exciting news for Game of Thrones fans because a spectacular auction is making headlines! Yes, the Game of Thrones dragon eggs up for auction are the real, original props that appeared on screen. Pinch yourself because these are the actual production-used dragon eggs from the hit HBO series.

The iconic eggs are expected to fetch a hefty price when they go under the hammer. Fans will remember them from Season 1, where they were presented as a wedding gift to Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen. Interestingly, this marks the first time production-used dragon eggs from the show have ever been auctioned.

Heritage Auctions will conduct the auction on July 15, featuring the three production-used dragon eggs along with a display chest. The current bid has already reached around $21,000, but experts believe each egg could ultimately sell for anywhere between $50,000 and $100,000.

The Eggs’ Debut

If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you’ll instantly recognize these eggs from Season 1, Episode 1, “Winter Is Coming.” In the episode, Magister Illyrio Mopatis (played by Roger Allam) presents the eggs as a wedding gift to Khal Drogo (played by Jason Momoa) and his new bride, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

The eggs also appeared briefly in Episodes 2 and 6 before taking center stage in the Season 1 finale, where they hatched into Daenerys’ three legendary dragons: Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion.

Who Owns the Eggs Now?

The current consignor of the dragon eggs is Alex Robson, who won them directly from HBO in 2011 through a competition. He has carefully preserved them for nearly 15 years.

Speaking about the incredible prize, Robson said:

“I remember it all being a huge shock that something so culturally everywhere at the time was sat in my house. I was only 18 years old then, too. I put the eggs in the back of my room at the time, hidden away to keep them safe, and occasionally took them out to admire them.”

Robson recently began clearing out some space and wondered how much the eggs might be worth today. Although he’s a huge Game of Thrones fan, the props have spent most of their time safely stored away. He now believes another fan may appreciate them even more.

The Previous Game of Thrones Auction

Robson had closely followed Heritage Auctions’ previous Game of Thrones memorabilia sale in 2024. He felt that offering the complete set of three dragon eggs together with a gift chest would make them even more valuable.

That certainly sounds exciting! Just like Robson, we’re eager to see how much these legendary props will fetch when the auction wraps up. Don’t worry, we’ll be covering the final sale price as soon as it happens!

So, would you buy one of these iconic dragon eggs? More importantly, how much would you be willing to pay for a piece of Game of Thrones history?
