Jessica Simpson Used Drugs and Alcohol to Cope With Sexual Abuses
Jessica Simpson shares the world the horrid days she endured when she was a kid. In her memoir ‘Open Book’ of People’s magazine, she revealed that her life’s nightmare started when she went through sexual abuse at the age of 8.
She eventually told her parents when she was 12 years old while they were on a car ride. Her mom slapped her dad’s arm, saying, “I told you something was happening.”
“Dad kept his eye on the road and said nothing,” Simpson wrote. “We never stayed at my parents’ friend’s house again but we also didn’t talk about what I had said.”
The emotional pain from the experience, as well as dealing with other stressors like career pressures, led Simpson to rely on alcohol and other stimulants to cope. “I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills,” she wrote in the book.
