Better known as Uma Karuna Thurman, her name relates to a Goddess in the Hindu mythology. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1970, Thurman got her first big break in the entertainment business when she was barely 15 years old. She started her modelling career in New York City, with the agency, Click Models and eventually, followed in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother.

After starring in movies like Batman and Robin and Gattaca, she reunited with Quentin Tarantino, to portray “The Bride” in “Kill Bill Vol 1” and “Vol 2”. Thurman received 2 golden globe nominations for both the action packed flicks. She went on to star in movies like Accidental Husband, Smash, The Producers and Netflix’s Brand New Horror TV Series, Chambers. Uma mesmerized the audience with her act in Dangerous Liaisons. She played Medusa in the 2010 film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

During her career, Uma met with critical acclaim and got nominated for a Golden Globe and Academy Award. She took home a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her role in 2003’s Hysterical Blindness.

Uma’s married life looks quite unstable. She happened to meet the English actor Gary Oldman on the sets of “State of Grace”. They got married in 1990, and got a divorce two years later. Her marriage with American actor Ethan Hawke in 1998 also didn’t work out and led to separation. They had two children together, a daughter named Maya and a son named Levon, before getting divorce in 2005. Hawke wrote the famous novel, Ash Wednesday and dedicated it to her by mentioning her middle name “For Karuna” in it. Uma has another daughter with London-based French financier Arpad Busson with whom she got engaged in 2007. They had a child named Rosalind in July 2012 then were separated in 2014.
