After the first movie Captain Marvel release in March 2019, the sequel was confirmed by Marvel in July 2019. The first part was the first female-led superhero movie created by Marvel.

The sequel will portray the action-filled epic team-up between the three female strengths, Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, played by Larson, Parris, and Vellani, respectively.

Larson’s MCU debut was in 2019 with Captain Marvel. Parris’s debut was in Disney+’s WandaVision. Vellani made her debut as Ms. Marvel in the Disney+ series. Samuel L. Jackson can be seen as Nick Fury in the sequel.

The sequel is planned to be directed by Nia DaCosta who makes history as the first woman to write a Marvel film. She has already made the history as first black female to direct Candyman in 2021 in Top Spot.

“She’s amazing. She’s so awesome and cool and clear,” Larson said of DaCosta on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, “The thing that I loved about her too, she gave the best pitch, she just came in, was ready, had such an incredible take on this story and on this film. And I’m so happy that she’s guiding this. I’m thrilled.”
